  1. Passwords protect volumes by limiting access to only those clients who can provide the password.
  2.  
  3. To assign a password to a volume to publish, open MacTOPS and:
  4.  
  5. 1.   Select a disk or folder from the list in your Local View.
  6.  
  7. 2.   Choose the “Publish…” option from the “MacTOPS” menu.
  8.  
  9. 3.   Type a password up to 31 characters long in the “Password:” text box in the “Publish” dialog box.
  10.  
  11. 4.   Click on the “OK” button.
  12.  
  13. MacTOPS will now only permit clients who can supply this password to access the volume.

  16. To enter a password to access a volume or a Sun server:
  17.  
  18. 1.   Select the volume or Sun server from the list in your Network View.
  19.  
  20. 2.   Click on the “Mount” or “Open” button. (For a Sun server, be sure to enter your UNIX account name in the “Login:” text box before entering the password.)

  22. 3.   Type the password in the “Password:” text box exactly as it was originally entered. (For security purposes, MacTOPS displays dots instead of characters as you type the password.)

  24. 4.   Click on the “OK” button.
